1. KDE4=dumbed down   (11 Jun 2009)
All right, at this stage it's still KDE, which is why I have say I plan to keep on using it, but it's been hurt really badly by the transition. The more I think about it, the more it occurs that my subject title for this thread probably does not pay justice to the developers. It may look as if they have taken a gnome-like approach, but upon looking further it rather seems that they are altering features that they fail to understand. It's not about the implementation of said features either, what...

2. computer science is not science and software engineering is not engineering...   (23 Jun 2009)
I have been in a lot of "software engineering" debates, perhaps too many. It is frustrating that there are heavy opinions about the "right way" to make software, but no easy way to objectively compare them to settle long-standing arguments. I have been pondering and studying why this is the case, and think I am finally able to articulate an answer. If the software discipline is "science", then the scientific process should be available to settle arguments. But it seems to fail. Some suggest that...

3. Feedback for possible template for new posts   (10 Apr 2009)
Recently, you will have noticed that there are quite a few posts in help sections that are just plain confusing to understand or perhaps there are no syntax tags and etc. The idea I came up with was having it so that when you would click create new topic in the help section, the default message would be a template that would able to be filled out. This would reduce the confusion in posts that lack clarity and/or have a lack of tags. Also, it would give allow everything to be presented in each po...

4. MST- Mission Pokemon   (27 May 2009)
Author's Note: Episode Four of Mystery Pokemon Theatre 3000- the first episode with Scarlet as host. Original content was by Gummy. [The scene is the interior of the Satellite of Love. Andy and Syntax are both sleeping, as Jax sits motionless at a console. Suddenly she falls over, revealing that she, too, is asleep. There’s a knock at the main room’s door. None of the group responds. Finally, the door slides open and three people step in. The first is a rather large dog, with silver-blue fur. Th...

5. Philip II of Macedon: Sent by Apollo   (01 Jun 2009)
"I had arrived at this result, for no other hypothesis would meet the facts." - Sherlock Holmes , in A Study in Scarlet Greetings all Just about twenty months have passed since this thread , one I have always wished to return to address some issues of disagreement etc. I initiate here discussions about Philip II of Macedon, whose broad legacy involved the formation of a new political organization in the form of a Greek monarchy in 337 B.C.. This was not conducive to the effectuated ideal of 'rul...

6. [MST] A twin adventure   (16 May 2009)
Author's Note: Episode three of Mystery Pokémon Theater 3000 . Original content was by Blue Screen of Death. [OPENING, INT., Satellite of Love. Andy and Syntax are already at the controls, reading a large, leather-bound book. Jax comes in from the right.] Jax: Hey! Welcome, everyone, to the Satellite of Love. I'm Jax, and these are my partners— [glances down to take notice of Andy and Syntax] Hey, guys. What're you doing here? Syntax: Oh, we're just reading this book we found in that box of stuf...

7. Shell programming and file descriptors - and improving same   (06 May 2009)
So in my continuing quest to make a better Unix shell I've been reading up on a few shell features I was never entirely familiar with before - specifically redirection to different file descriptors, Korn shell coprocesses, and so on... People who are more experienced in shell programming will know this stuff already - maybe they can fill in some of the blanks in my understanding here. I'm sharing what I've learned and also trying to think about how it can all be improved upon. The most common fo...

8. How to build a multi-boot Security-distro Linux system on a Laptop   (07 May 2009)
Well, as promised, I am going to outline how I took an IBM R-40 laptop that had Windows XP SP2 installed and turned it into a multi-boot system using the grub boot manager and the Gparted partitioning tool. The "kernel" for the idea came from reading the following threads by Saikee: How to install and boot 145 operating systems in a PC. http://www.justlinux.com/forum/showthread.php?t=147959 How to get 44 logical partitions out of a SCSI/SATA/PATA/USB disk. http://www.justlinux.com/forum/showthre...

10. The Common's Guide To Programming, C#   (05 May 2009)
--- Introduction To 'The Common's' - 1.x --- "Before we get started." Licht Guide Purpose && Beginnings - 1.1 Before getting into the code, I would like to take a moment to explain this guide, it's contents, the purpose, and so on. The name, The Common's Guide To Programming, C#, is a name derived from the original guide I have posted here. It would be extended to something like, The Common Man's Guide To Programming In C#.NET, Version 2. Or wording similar to that. Let us call it "The Common's"...
