Yesterday, 06:38 AM I'm trying to buy my friends a used tivo as an anniversary present. (Why used? I want to get them a lifetime subscription). But I'm learning there were a TON of options earlier when it came to subscriptions. Can someone lay out what hte old subscriptions were?
Life basic? Life plus? etc? Also- what else should I think about before purchasing? Thanks.

Comcast using TiVo as primary DVR

Hello,
A couple days ago, I ordered a HDTV off Amazon.com.
One reason I bought it was it included $300. off the price if I also bought a TiVo HD box.
Today I am reading that Comcast (my cable company) is teaming up with TiVo as their primary DVR.

Before reading this, I was thinking about getting a lifetime membership with TiVo. Now I am not so sure.
Seems to me that if Comcast is going to provide the same TiVo service, and provide me with the hardw...

So my Tivo HD has died. It isn't the hard drive as that I kept the original hard drive when I bought it and immediately upgraded.
So I called Tivo customer service and got word that the policy on repairs had changed and now Lifetime Subscription owners were penalized $199 to transfer the service. The folks who have a month to month service get the transfer for free. Maybe it is harder to transfer the service of a lifetime subscription vs a month to month subscription (I don't think so). Tivo series 2 as cable box no subscription

Hello I am thinking about getting the tivo series 2 and using it instead of my cable box. I spoke with tivo and optimum and they say it will work if i have basic cable all i have to do is connect the coax cable. I just want to know if i just get series 2 with out activating it will it still work? I heard when its not activated there is a message on the bottom that says activate tivo. After endless and exhausting mad rush to get the right parts, I am seemingly at the end of my proverbial rope. I found very little information as far as a TiVo controlling a D12. One webpage told me the right USB adapter to choose.. the IOmega GUC232A and another told me the pinout for the TiVo DB9/3.5mm headphone cable; the sum of which is a whole lot of nothing. Anyone have a TiVo? I'm thinking about buying one. Other than the upfront cost of the unit the monthly cost is equal to what I pay Time Warner and it will convert my shows to my computer iPod or iPhone. Just want some feedback other than what's on their site because I know you guys are good at complaining about shit.

I've read mixed opinions about it here, but no show-stoppers. Seems like not many people have put this drive into their TiVo. Hopefully this is a smooth process, and I'll report back. I was very encouraged by the noise levels shown here: Mostly, I just thought it was a SWEET price!

Thinking about buying lifetime for a 2 year old TivoHD

Is there any data on service life of the TivoHD models? I'm wondering whether it might crap out in another year or two and make that $300 investment a waste of money.
I'm also considering buying the TivoHD + Lifetime they are selling at $500 now, but then I would have to go through the hassle of switching Comcast CCs and it was SO MUCH TROUBLE getting them working correctly 2 years ago that I'd really prefer to let sleeping dogs lie.

I'm not sure what Tivo is going to ask for in their contempt sanction motion, but I imagine Folsom will be highly inclined to grant the relief requested, LOL.
Any guesses as to how soon after argument that Folsom will issue a ruling?
