Art Deco
(24 Apr 2009)
I have found a watch I would like to own.
I do have a couple of questions I'd be grateful for some answers/opinions from this board's learned membership - (as I'm not getting any response from the seller)
The watch is listed on eBay #330247105390
I'd like to know some of its history/manufacturer's name and
Is this a realistically fair price? (It was previously listed at the same price and has just been relisted)
Thanks very much in advance for any advice/info you can give.

painting ideas for sideboard
(20 Apr 2009)
Okay, I got this awesome deco style server at our local used furniture place. It is so cool! The side doors actually open the whole side of the server. The finish is in rough shape so I know I want to paint it, but the problem is, I don't know what I want to do I want to make it a real conversation piece with a deco flare and I want the half circle design to be a feature, but I have too many ideas.
I need creative opinions
I've though about doing branches with birds on them and the circles as si...

If you love French Art Deco check website
(06 Jul 2009)
www.pollaro.com
Talk about a strong influence by Ruelhmann, perhaps one of my favourite bespoke Art Deco dudes from France in the 1920's and 30's.
In my opinion, English and French cabinet makers produced the most beautiful furniture during that period. Each country's practitioners had completely distinct styles from each other. Needless to say their output was remarkably different from what was going on in the US.
Hope you enjoy.

BTW - does anyone here know if Art Deco made its way over...

Artistic Styling - Clocks and Watch Cases
(16 Jun 2009)
Artistic Styles Commonly Used For Collectible Clocks and Watches.
Artistic styling follows trends or fashions, time periods or eras and geographic location. (country and province)
The identity of an artistic style is highly subjective. Artistic styles are often the name of the artist or his school of study or the name of a historic era. An artistic style may emerge as a branch or subset of another but not always tree structured but more like shrubery.
Some commonly seen clock and watch styles ar...

Big Antique Ring-tacky for a lefty professional?
(05 May 2009)
To me feminism is about having choices, whatever they happen to be. I'm 41 and going to be married this year, finally having found a wonderful really smart man. The wedding is going to be big but as simple as possible, going through as little of the Wedding Industrial Complex as possible.
So we've been looking at rings, both agreeing that conflict-free (if such a thing can actually be proven-I've researched and remain unconvinced) or estate rings are the best choices. I LOVE ART DECO RINGS! Let...

GOTG, or Game Of This Gen....Catchy isn't it?
(02 May 2009)
What is your GOTG? With the new revival thread for Oblivion it got me thinking about what the GOTG is. I still can't figure it out, but I do have some candidates. GOTG includes any game released after the Xbox 360 was launched, since that was the first console released this gen, and yes PC games are of course included in this discussion
I don't feel like doing writeups on these games so I'll give you my list. Please do the same if you could (writeups are of course encouraged). Anyway here is my...

Travel Dilemma
(14 Jun 2009)
I have a delightful dilemma....I plan to spent several weeks somewhere in this world this summer.
I am planning a week in Florida soon. So that is fun in the sun. I canceled my trip to Bermuda.
I thought maybe Australia h very beautiful, but, I keep on coming back to New York.
As I think about what I want to do my mind wanders to the NY Botanical Gardens where I sometimes taught Sociology.
Then the Bronx Zoo there are great neighborhood restaurants. (not street vendors PM me I will tell you why...

HEEEELP, My First Oil Pastel
(28 Apr 2009)
I normally paint in acrylic or soft Pastel. I've been wanting an alternative to the dust of the soft pastels and different medium just to keep my muse charged up.
I made no attempt to make this a good painting or even an interesting painting, but I was just trying to learn how to manipulate oil pastels. It is a subject I painted several times in the past so I just kind of winged it as I went along. I've read numerous threads to try to help myself along and probably misunderstood some of them.

Waldorf=Astoria coming to New Orleans in 2009
(02 Jul 2009)
Fairmont building sold; Waldorf-Astoria will move in
The Fairmont New Orleans, an iconic downtown hotel best known for its extravagant Christmas displays, has been sold to a development group planning to convert the property into a Waldorf-Astoria Hotel.
Dimension Development Company Inc. of Natchitoches paid $17 million for the 114-year-old downtown hotel, which has not reopened since Hurricane Katrina.
"I think it's going to end up looking like the Waldorf in New York," said Dimension Chairman...
