Midnight Physics.... I'm thinking about brake rotors and sprocket hubs
(07 May 2009)
OK, so my normal open class kart has a huge brake rotor on it. It weighs in at 1lb 16 oz. I use this type of rotor because i'm generally travelling faster, braking harder, and wearing the big boy out. This all causes heat and brake fade. I have NACA ducts moving air to the rotor and caliper. Not much of a concern now with overheating the rotor and experiencing brake fade.
I'm taking the Open off in favor of a blue clone. I'm thinking I don't need this heavy duty brake rotor, or heavy duty sprock...

I just learned that all 7" rotors and adaptors are not created equal
(24 Apr 2009)
Wow. What a frustrating couple of days. The lesson learned?
Well, a Hayes 7" rotor is actually 7 inches. Which equals 178mm. But an Avid 7" rotor (which, they do call a 185mm rotor) measures in at 185mm. So, if you use a Hayes rotor with an Avid adaptor, you'll have a good 2-3 mm of pad above your rotor. And I'd imagine if you go the other way, you're going to have some problems with interference.
An 8" rotor for both is 203mm. And I don't really care about a 6". What the hell though? This seems...

Time for new Rotors/Pads.
(21 Apr 2009)
Any suggestions?
I was thinking I'd get some StopTech slotted rotors and EBC Redstuff all around. They both seem to have good reviews, just wanted some opinions from people that might be using em on our cars.

new rotors
(06 May 2009)
hey all. so I've needed new pads and rotors ever since I bought this car in august and I finally got around to putting new ones in. I got some decent ebay rotors and I got some ceramic pads.
These are the old piles of crap
needless to say the new brakes are SO much better. definitely glad I finally got my lazy butt up and got this done. And they look a little better too
Let me know what you guys think about em

best pads and rotors
(30 May 2009)
So I'm thinking about swapping out my pads on the car because they are beginning to squeal... and I don't exactly love it.
But, I want to add some drilled and slotted rotors.
I am not looking to break the bank, esp on the pads.
So does anyone have a suggestion for a good set of rear and front pads that will get the job done for a fair enough price. And a set of rotors that is also good, but not looking to race it or anything, just improve performance slightly, and try to eliminate squeal...
Oh,...
