Thinking about getting one of those other cones? Look here first!
(28 Apr 2009)
Thinking about getting one of those other cones? Look here first! I know alot of people are probably thinking about that new Vertex cone. Sure it looks nice and is priced nicely as well. Let me tell you something. The ATB cones are awesome and come with something the Vertex cone doesn't, Victor's customer service. You can't put a price on that IMO.
I love my ATB and I have no regrets about getting one. I'm sure other ATB owners will put their $.02 in as well.
ATB cones RULE!!!

Replace pitted hub cones?
(24 Apr 2009)
I have a 1996 (I think) Trek 750 Multitrack that I purchased for $100 via craigslist last year. The previous owner swapped the flat handlebars for drops, and since it has a nice chromoly frame and all the brazeons to attach front and rear racks, I've been using it as a commuting/touring bike. I haven't done much touring, but I would like to do more, and I see no reason why this bike can't do it. I've been putting some money into it (racks/fenders/new stem/new cables/new chain/Brooks b17) which s...

The mechanics of deformable cones
(10 Apr 2009)
All,
This is something I've been thinking about for a while, perhaps some of you can help me.
Lets say we have a cone made of a material sitting on a bench such that the apex of the cone is at the top (see cone.jpeg attached). If we walk across this cone the pressure between the foot and the apex of the cone would increase as more body weight is loaded on to the cone. The pressure at this interface would be high because the contact area between the foot and the apex of the cone is very small and...

15' cone
(24 Apr 2009)
OK, maybe I'm just confusing myself or simply thinking about it too much, but I could have sworn that I've seen two different versions of a 15' cone (straight, not corner) in official books, but I'm not sure which one is supposed to be used.
Code: X XXX OXXX X
or
Code: XX OXXX XX
These are based on the cones presented in the Draconomicon and the DMG (I think).

Broke my sub cone
(22 Jun 2009)
I put a huge kiddy pool into my hatch and didn't think and had the subs going. I ended up cracking one of the cones on my CVR12 and now I'm not really sure what to do since their probably a year out of warranty and I don't think they make them anymore.
I heard you could fix the cone by using rubber cement and tissues and just layering them on the back side to put the cone back in place. Any truth to that?
I was also thinking about fixing it and selling my setup and getting a single sub, but I he...

Cone From a truck hits my car...=new bumper? + new Lumma style spoiler
(28 Apr 2009)
So last night driving home from a late day at work, a truck a few car lengths ahead of me has one of those large rubber/plastic cones pop out of the back. going about 80, it lands right on in front of the passenger side of my front bumper and my car drives over it.
I'm annoyed but didn't see as it was a big deal as I looked behind and it cleanly went under my car and saw from my rear view it just popped out behind me. (hopefully no one else hit it)
This morning I walk out to my car and notice th...

Software Opinions
(19 May 2009)
Hey lads/ladies/lady-lads/etc,
I've just about finished my little electronic retrofit of my acoustic kit, I'm rebuilding the triggers with better foam cones and fabricating new bridges out of stainless at the moment so it's not quite ready for posting on the net but will be next week if everything goes to plan.
In the meantime, I have a question or two. I've got a Roland TMC-6 being ordered in and already have a midi-usb interface, and I've got my triggers. Now I need some software; be it BFD, D...

Information re isolation
(22 Jun 2009)
I am thinking about adding a few tweaks to my system ,and to start I was going to make a platform for my cd player.I was wondering if anyone had experience of using Vibropod/cones. I recently had the opportunity to listen to a demo of some Vertex couplers and a platform which was really good but all told about 500 - 600 quid. The vibropods and cones seem to get good reviews .Any thoughts?

Flat cone drivers - opinions?
(24 May 2009)
Any comments on this new Tang-Band driver:
W4-1798S
Would this be better than a curved cone shape? Tang band claims "wide dispersion performance". It's heavier than a comparable driver. I noticed B&W only used a flat cone on the midrange so maybe not a good choice for a ful range design.
