Okay guys...im a complete noob when it comes to anything Apple and the wifey is thinking of buying me a new desktop...
i hear a lot of good things about apples...main use for me will be internet browsing and heavy photo editting...
any opinions on apples in general...i've been anti-apple for a long time but have grown tired of the problems windows xp and vista have...heres the model im looking at and some stats...

I know this might be opening a can of worms, but if there is anywhere that an analytic and objective conversation can happen, i would hope it would be here.
I've owned PC's for many years, but have never owned a mac. I would say i'm fairly proficent with PCs...i've tweaked the registry, run beta OS's, etc. Nothing hardcore like most of the folks on this forum, but out of all my friends and family, i'm the guy that people come to for help with their computers.

So I received 3 macbook airs, all of which had lines, 2 of which would not sit flat on my desk.
Apple told me they are made that way and gave me a refund.
It is rude, unhelpful and a total waste of time. Disgusting. I hope they release a new model soon which is built properly!

generic vs from apple: graphics card question

been thinking about a different graphics card, an ati 4870 to be specific. i
was in a local computer (pc place, not an apple-specific store) and they had
the 4870 on the shelf.
is there any difference between the 4870 i might find in any generic pc store
and the 4870 i find from apple or at an apple certified retailer? do they do
anything to change firmware or anything like that that might make it work,
whereas the generically bought one would not?

Why doesn't Apple try to make Windows as seamless as OS X?

Though at first it seems obvious why Apple would not put all their effort into making Windows run as flawlessly as OS X on their hardware, after thinking about it Apple should try and make Windows on the Mac run as seamlessly as possible.
Yes, one would think that if someone puts Windows on a MacBook Pro and finds annoyances, they would switch to the Mac OS. But this is not usually the case - people will keep using Windows, even with its flaws which are mostly due to Apple's bad drivers, because...

Who thinks apple should make an AMD computer?

I have been an AMD user for a long time, and recently switched to mac. Right now, all I have are powerpc macs because I need a higher powered computer, but can't afford a quad core mac pro. I think apple should make an AMD version of the mac mini with a phenom CPU, as it would be cheaper than the core 2 duo CPU, and the AMD motherboards are much cheaper to produce (not exactly sure why, I just know they are.) I believe that if apple were to do this, they could have a quad core mac mini for about...
