1. What do you want from the bass?   (26 Oct 2008)
I've been playing a lot recently, for various reasons. I've also been thinking about why i play the bass, and what i want from it. At 29, i have no aspirations for stardom, or making it big. Obviously if someone signed my band i would give it all up, but luckily i have a job i love. So what do i want from the bass? Well, i think if i can reach an advanced level and perhaps end up teaching people for free in my spare time i would be happy. I know i will always play the bass for the rest of my lif...

2. What age to start - how long to get good?   (06 Nov 2008)
I had a conversation recently about the proper age to start learning guitar and how many years it takes the typical learner to reach an advanced level (strong rhythm - lead player) in their chosen style. Years ago I had a classical teacher say that he generally didn't like to take students younger than about 12 due to underdeveloped motor skills. I think he thought 3 - 5 years for typical students to become competent soloists (classical guitar) Any other opinions on the topic? Does style (rock,...

3. Talk to me about bindings...   (29 Aug 2008)
With the big Labor Day sales coming up next week and a pair of naked Lady Hart Twintips sitting down in my garage, I've started thinking about bindings. Problem: I know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about bindings. What do I need to know to be able to find good bindings, hopefully at a bargain price? Brands, settings, size, shape, color, I honestly have no clue! If it makes a difference, I'm 5'7", about 135, and ski at a high intermediate/low advanced level (in other words, I can get down just about anythi...

4. Geography - Issue - Is climate change natural or man made?   (01 Oct 2008)
Hi, I hope you don't mind me joining the site simply as a student but I am studying Geography at an advanced level and I am required to do an independant study on any current geographical issue. I have chosen to focus my issue debate on the Climate Change 'conflict' - natural versus man-made. I am looking to propose a balanced debate taking in to consideration both sides of the coin. I appreciate that a Greenpeace site is likely to hold a wider number of 'man-made' arguments, but I would be very...

5. Album rating function   (29 Oct 2008)
I just had an idea regarding the album rating function and I believe it would be an improvement for this site. VGMdb is currently using a simple 5 star album rating method, though 5 stars itself are sufficient, in my opinion. I think this way of rating an album isn't exact enough in most cases. I guess the actual result of such a rating is mostly distorted, because it's not that easy to rate an album in a professional way. To make it accurate, the listener had to gather all track ratings manuall...

6. Members Best of Forum - International Association of Penturners   (10 Nov 2008)
Steve at this link posted a beautiful pen. Glenn did here BGray here SteveR here TriballRR here Indian Blankets by several . . . . . and others who have posted some fine pens that are viewed for 2 or 3 days and then pass on into the netherlands of past pages. These guys and others have done excellent work that builds on previous work or takes work into a higher and more advanced level. I was on a forum a few years ago that had a special forum in which moderators and administrators moved a posted...

7. MMO Account Banning   (19 Oct 2008)
Why do online subscription game services such as Funcom, use Account Banning as their only recourse to correct problems? You cannot draft an ELUA in attempt to supercede already existing laws. Example: You and I can go into a written agreement that I am going to allow you to shoot me dead in the street and not be held accountable. But this agreement will not negate the homocide laws society already has in place. A subscription is an obligatory term in which the service "sold in advance" must be...

8. Fun with new car for guy new to cars... willing to pick up wrench.   (27 Sep 2008)
Okay, don't kill me. I've been reading a lot, and I've seen a lot of opinions, and I don't want this thread to be stupid BUT: 1.) I'd like to get the Street Unit Hybrid Recirculating/VTA BOV, AFTER I get a Cobb SRI (I'd like the CPE CAI, but there seem to be large puddles here in Baton Rouge occasionally). I've read some haters on BOV's, and I am a newb to cars in general (I mod PC's with wicked overclocks, that's my "expert" speed obsession), so why would this be a good or bad idea? Is the SSQV...

9. To Practice, Or Not To Practice!   (07 Oct 2008)
To Practice, Or Not To Practice! By Andy Mclaughlan Only a small percentage of guitarists ever reach an advanced level of playing. Many guitarists not only believe, but accept they will never play like their heroes because of the misconception that the aforementioned 'advanced' players attained their skills as a result of their exceptional talent. Whilst there is no denying some players are naturally more talented, talent alone will not produce exceptional playing. Only understanding how to prac...
