What do you want from the bass?

I've been playing a lot recently, for various reasons. I've also been thinking about why i play the bass, and what i want from it. At 29, i have no aspirations for stardom, or making it big. Obviously if someone signed my band i would give it all up, but luckily i have a job i love. So what do i want from the bass? What age to start - how long to get good?

I had a conversation recently about the proper age to start learning guitar and how many years it takes the typical learner to reach an advanced level (strong rhythm - lead player) in their chosen style.
Years ago I had a classical teacher say that he generally didn't like to take students younger than about 12 due to underdeveloped motor skills. I think he thought 3 - 5 years for typical students to become competent soloists (classical guitar)

With the big Labor Day sales coming up next week and a pair of naked Lady Hart Twintips sitting down in my garage, I've started thinking about bindings. Problem: I know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about bindings. What do I need to know to be able to find good bindings, hopefully at a bargain price? Album rating function

I just had an idea regarding the album rating function and I believe it would be an improvement for this site. VGMdb is currently using a simple 5 star album rating method, though 5 stars itself are sufficient, in my opinion.
I think this way of rating an album isn't exact enough in most cases. I guess the actual result of such a rating is mostly distorted, because it's not that easy to rate an album in a professional way. To make it accurate, the listener had to gather all track ratings manuall...

Why do online subscription game services such as Funcom, use Account Banning as their only recourse to correct problems? You cannot draft an ELUA in attempt to supercede already existing laws. Example: You and I can go into a written agreement that I am going to allow you to shoot me dead in the street and not be held accountable. But this agreement will not negate the homocide laws society already has in place.

I've been reading a lot, and I've seen a lot of opinions, and I don't want this thread to be stupid BUT:
