Blu-ray disc player poll
(10 Oct 2008)
I thought I'd set up a poll to see how many are into Blu-ray or are thinking about getting into it - and how many have zero interest.
Prices are coming down, and I am 100% sure prices will drop dramatically before Christmas.
FYI, these are currently the most affordable Blu-ray players in the UK:
Samsung BD-P1500/XEU - Blu-ray Disc Player: amazon.co.uk
Samsung BD-P1500/XEU - Blu-ray Disc Player: amazon.co.uk (2 x disc bundle)
Samsung BD-P1400/XEU Blu-ray Disc Player: Play.com

HD/Blu-Ray - NTSC/PAL
(18 Sep 2008)
I quick question about something I was thinking about...
Are American Blu-Ray discs NTSC and the UK discs PAL?
I know on normal DVDs that was the case but I thought that with them being HD maybe there isn't such a thing as NTSC and PAL.
I might be wrong but was the difference between NTSC and PAL the amount of lines used? If Blu-Ray discs are HD, then they should all be 1080 or 720?
Cheers,
Psycho

Xbox Owners holding us back?
(11 Sep 2008)
The next gta game should be a ps3 exclusive because xbox owners keep holding us back. Probably gonna get flamed and I garanty you there will be mother mentioned in this thread. Imagine how big a game could be if it were done specificaly on a blu ray disc. Im pretty sure gta4s not bigger than 10gbs. A bluray disc can hold about 50gbs. There could be many features, mini games, weapons, clothes, and the storyline length could be doubles. Your opinions. Xbox owners your opinions are welcome. But not...

ACD HDCP Firmware Updates?
(14 Sep 2008)
Having just looked into the ability to play Blu-Ray discs on my 30" ACD, I discover that there is no current support for HDCP in the current line of displays. Most disappointing, but it seems that this is something just beginning to rear its head.
Is the opinion that current users will be expected to replace a perfectly good screen? I see a few options:
1. We are made to buy new screens
2. A firmware update is released and is chargeable - like the wireless n enabler.
3. The firmware update is fr...

Blu-Ray player versus Upconvert DVD player
(21 Oct 2008)
I have seen in store "demos" and heard various opinions from other people. I guess I really need a poll and a few more people's opinion to make a decision. Some people have stated that up-convert dvd players work just as well as Blu-Ray, but research suggests that the quality is better.
I have a 47" 1080p LCD screen and I'm trying to decide whether or not to get an up-convert DVD player or a Blu-Ray player. I'm NOT interested in getting a PS3 (Yes, I do know that it's the best of two worlds for...

Classe and subwoofer crossover
(17 Oct 2008)
Hey fellow Classe owners, I am curious to know what kind of subwoofer and speakers you are running, what your personal preference is for your subwoofer crossover frequency, and whether or not you use the large or small setting for your front speakers?? I had somebody tell me NOT to use the THX setting a while back but I don't have a clue why. I suppose I am curious to hear what your opinions are for the best sound on your DVDs or Blu-ray discs?
If I am not mistaken the factory default is 80 and...

Pushing Daisies en Blu-Ray (16/09/08)
(28 Sep 2008)
This morning Warner decided to kick off the Memorial Day holiday weekend by formally announcing the title. They confirmed a 3-DVD set for $29.98 SRP, coming out on September 16th. And, just to toss in a surprise ingredient to this pie recipe, they also announced that a Blu-ray Disc version would come out of the oven day-and-date with the DVD edition. That high definition 3-disc version (on single-layer "BD-25" discs) will cost just $39.98 SRP.
Both will come with all 9 episodes of the wonderful,...

Geforce 9800 Gx2 Any Good; Help Building A Comp?
(13 Nov 2008)
I was looking into the GeForce 9800 GX2 as an option for a Graphics Card, for my build I am currently building but I don't know if this a good card, or not. I can get this card for close to $200... With that in mind, I would be able to get 2 of these for the price of a 280. What is everyone's opinion, and is it any good?
My set up so far (I have not purchased, just making my list to buy.... If you have any suggestions towards switching out things, let me know...), I a going to be using this setu...

Thoughts on my first game/blu-ray purchases
(25 Sep 2008)
I'm saving up for a PS3 (most likely will be a birthday present to myself next month) and I've decided to get a few games and movies in anticipation of purchasing the console. I'm purchasing the media from Amazon, as it seems like their prices tend to edge out most B&M stores and time isn't a factor right now.
Right now my cart looks like this:
Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
Resistance: Fall Of Man
Live Free or Die Hard
Cars
Amazon's price on the remote control...
