Current Performance King Among Notebook Hard Drives?
(19 Nov 2008)
Looking at the WD Scorpio Black, Seagate Momentus 7200.3 and the Hitachi Travelstar 7K320. The price/performance ratio is close enough that I'd rather just go for whatever's fastest.
For what it's worth, this will be on a 32bit Vista Business notebook with 3GB of memory and an Intel Core Duo T2300 @ 1.66GHz.
Opinions? Suggestions not on the list?
Thanks.

Is this macbook pro worth the asking price?
(08 Nov 2008)
Hey, ok so someone is trying to sell me this for $700.00(canadian dollars), I have never bought a mac before, I just want something quick that I can take on the road, so I don't want to buy something brand shiny new, cause who knows what would happen.
So I wanna know if this asking price is too high, I tend to think it is a decent price, not overpriced. what do you guys think? Need some opinions...

iMac memories
(05 Nov 2008)
Hello everyone:
I'm new here, just registered yesterday, and I come with you fine folks with a question. But first a little background info.
I switched over from the "dark side" a little more than a year-and-a-half ago (February 2007) since I bought an Intel Core 2 Duo iMac. It's been great! I never expected such elegance and ease of use. No one will ever convince me to switch back to Windows again... except for one thing: most of the software used in my line of business is Windows specific! I'v...

New hardware for FS9 / FSX
(16 Sep 2008)
Hi guys,
as you might have noticed I have been rather quiet and absent from the forums for the last 18 months. This has to do with a number of factors, the major one being my disappointment with "FSX" due to its overboard hardware demands and my lack of a suitable hardware platform to run the simulator "correctly".
I have recently seen FSX on a friend's laptop that runs VISTA 32-bit on a Intel 2-Core processor and it runs it reasonably well.
So I started looking around for a new hardware rig tha...

New build: Computer shuts off about 30 secs/1 min after POST
(12 Nov 2008)
I just built a new gaming PC with the following specs: Intel Core Duo 3.16ghz E8500 processor, 4gb DDR2 RAM, GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DS3L mobo, PNY GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512MB PCI Express 2.0 x16 video card, Cooler Master case with stock 400w power supply.
I just put the computer together last night, and on first power up the computer came on, went through some of the the normal start up routine, stayed on for about 30 seconds and then shut off. Restarted two more times to the same scenario.
I have asked f...

The Spore Megathread
(05 Sep 2008)
With Spore's September release date slowly approaching, I thought it best to make a Megathread about it, since we don't really have one going.
For those who don't know what Spore is:
Quote: : In Spore, gamers are asked to begin existence on the cellular level, navigating around a two-dimensional world devouring things and fighting other goo-monkeys that are stuck in the same primordial soup. After a few eons, the cells evolve into a basic organism with some limited higher brain functions. Now yo...

Super Hornet Cockpit update
(11 Sep 2008)
A quick update on the work Rob and I are doing for the U.S. Navy. We have one custom MFD built with complete (almost) HSI functionality and the UFCD used to enter nav/comm data. Here are screenshots from X-Plane:
This screenshot has almost everything turned on. Here's a description of the MFD text displayed:

Vista really isn't all that bad
(01 Sep 2008)
My intent is not to start a flame war, rather, it is an attempt to start a serious discussion of Windows Vista and its pros/cons.
Granted, I will say that the security in Vista is laughable compared to UNIX-like Operating Systems. The UAC, in my opinion, is very intrusive; but if you turn it off, you open yourself to an onslaught of issues. But, at the same time, it also must be pointed out that Microsoft did a much better job at security this go-around. For instance, I have never had a virus on...
