Going Vista 64, need replacement for Nikon View and Capture:
(29 Dec 2008)
I am in the process of moving from XP to a new computer with Vista 64 Home Premium. On XP I used Nikon View and Capture, and to a lesser extent Photoshop CS2 to edit my photos. I shoot NEFs exclusively.
Photoshop CS2 works fine on Vista for other things, but so far I haven't been able to open NEFs. I also haven't been able to get View or Capture to install on Vista - I assumed they would be able to run in XP compatibility mode but no luck yet. I'm just starting to research these problems and mig...

Capture NX is THE best NEF convertor...in my opinion
(19 Nov 2008)
Hi there....I'm new here...forgive me if this has been flogged to death but i'm still witnessing debate where for me, there is definately no debate
....a good friend of mine, photographer most of his life and absolute technician....yes, he actually understands MTF curves for example (heh heh heh) told me point blank....Nikon are bast***s....they have kept their technology for RAW conversion on their NEF's to themselves and there's no way to get the best colour from your shots unless you use Capt...

RAW conversion software
(31 Dec 2008)
Hey,
I'm looking for opinions on a decent RAW conversion software for my Nikon files.
I've heard Capture NX is decent, as is Adobe Camera Raw. Any opinions/suggestions on a good program?
Price would somewhat be an issue, but if it's really worth it, I'll pay a fair amount of money for something good.
Thanks,
Kier

Upgrading my PC - Is this a good configuration?:
(11 Dec 2008)
Hi all,
My PC just died and I need to replace it.
As far as photogrpahy goes, I use Capture NX 2.0, PSP X12, and Qimage.
Do you think this desktop configuration from DELL will keep me happy for a few years?

Vista Home Premium SP1, 64-bit
6GB dual channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz
640GB SATA hard drive (7200 RPM)
ATI Radeon HD 3450 256MB
20-inch UltraSharp 2009W widescreen digital falt panel monitor
Thanks for your opinions.

Need your opinion, PS 7.0 or Capture NX2?:
(15 Oct 2008)
Hello everybody,
I'm about to have my first baby and will be taking a lot of photos. I looking at getting either PS 7.0 or Capture NX2, I have a D80 that came with the Capture NX and sort of liked it, but didn't have enough time to play with it before the trial expired on me.
I still have my original Elements that came with my Nikon 885, used it for many years but I haven't done anything in the last year or so, life keeps getting in the way. :)
I am looking for a software that is user friendly,...

Possible Canon 40D defector - D300 vs D90 questions, advise!:
(05 Dec 2008)
I've been mulling over this for quite some time, and I'm *considering* jumping ship over to Nikon. Please, don't turn this into a flame war - I really have absolutely zero brand loyalty, so all the ranting (or raving) really won't hold much sway for me. I need level-headed responses please!
The reason I want to switch isn't really IQ or price, etc, but simply features. I don't really know what to choose between a D300 and D90, so I'm hoping for opinions.
First, what I'll be selling:
Canon D40

LR2 and the D3:
(06 Dec 2008)
In my opinion LR1 made a horrible mess of D3 files.
I've not tried LR2. Any better? Profile available anywhere? As good as Capture NX?
I'd like to find one program that copes properly with all our cameras.
