advice with reconfiguring hard drives on PC
(22 Oct 2008)
I currently have 2 500 GB Seagate HD's set up in RAID 0 + 1 configuration. A RAID 0 partition has my OS on it, and a RAID 1 set up has my documents.
I am now reconsidering my options as I am wiping everything off my computer and doing a clean install. I would like the entire 500 GB for documents and I have heard it is better to have the OS on a completely separate hard drive than documents.
Can anyone offer advice? I was thinking about getting a new high performance hard drive just for the OS, o...

Looking for Mac Pro setup advice
(27 Nov 2008)
Hi all,
I just received my brand new Pimped out Mac Pro. I ordered it with 4x1TB HDD's in a software RAID 10 configuration. My primary reason for having realtime backup is for my photography, music, and video's that I create. I also have external drives that I plan to use time machine to weekly backups.
Now I'm starting to question this setup.
The pluses: It provides additional disk speeds useful when working with HD video, and it duplicates all of my data in case of a HDD failure.
The negatives...

Hi,
Thought i'd say hello. Tbh, i joined this forum because i have no certifications and reached an age of 30. And if i'm out of a job, i may not be likely to find another in this economic climate.
I've been and still am going through a difficult marriage and now divorce and custody battle. This has really put me behind a great deal and stressing me out but i have to think about my career now too.
I've been working since i've graduated back in Aug 2001. I'm now working in a large IT Services com...

Home office/some games for $1000: BTO or BYO?
(29 Nov 2008)
Hi, so I am thinking of either buying Built-To-Order or building a PC.
I think I can afford BTO with most of the parts I want (nothing too incredible), but is it much cheaper to do it yourself... I looked up some of the parts earlier on New Egg and it didn't seem to save much in total. But I need to hear from the experts
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
All of the above. Someday, it might be nice to add a TV tuner also. Right now, I am trying to keep u...

Need recommendations for video workstation->server transfers
(16 Dec 2008)
Hey guys,
At work we are setting up an enterprise level video capture and encoding system. Five workstations will capture and edit video (SD) for now. This video will then be encoded by 8 servers at a high rate. The servers are provided by Dell and all have Xeon CPUs and RAID 1+0 setups for storage.
I need advice on how to transfer the video data from the workstations to the servers. Gigabit LAN will not provide enough throughput, and some kind of shared fiberoptic bus will be too expensive. The...
