With my htpc case running out of room for new hard drives, I’ve started to look into building a budget/introductory home media server from spare parts that I have laying around the house and just wanted to get opinions on what I should or should not use and on servers altogether. I have been looking to update my home network for a year now and keep putting it off. Meanwhile things are starting to get really bad. I had been using an SMC barricade router for a few years expect it didn't seem to be powerful enough to handle SPI but with it off the thing was great and reliable.
