1. Anarchist   (21 Oct 2008)
Since July and August, I have been considering joining a social group/ideal/ideology, namely the Anarchists. However, I know that once I attach myself to a particular human label, that the group I enter into will be successful. What does the ILP community think about this? Should I go ahead with it or choose another path?

2. Anarchist Position Paper, I just kinda want some oppinions and critiques....   (29 Nov 2008)
It was cold outside, really cold. After almost three months of trying to organize a show in my small town, and having jumped through an unfathomable amount of hoops to find a venue, the night of the concert had finally come. At first it had looked as if only three or four kids were actually going to attend our collective’s first event, but in a last minute arrangement some kids carpooled from the next town over giving us a grand total of about twelve kids including the performers, three folk sin...

3. Money in an Anarchist Society?   (01 Dec 2008)
I want to know what others think about this. I think that in an anarchist society would be too unstable if it had money in it. Even if private property was abolished people would still be buying personal property. This would give money the same sort of power it has now. This money could be used to bribe people, it could still be used to hire armed guards. Basically I'm afraid of the most successful people in that society returning that society to capitalism and reforming a state based around a c...

5. An anarchist view of the 1916 Easter Proclamation   (13 Oct 2008)
“What The Proclamation Means To Me” By George Kerr (Anarchist and trade union activist, member of Workers Solidarity Movement, Dublin) ”A free society?” The 1916 proclamation was supposed to herald Irish freedom. The majority of contributors to this site would probably concur with the contention that the reality of what has happened in the 90 years since fell far short of the ideal. But what is actually meant by the concept of freedom? We're told we live in a free society. We have freedom of spe...

6. Libertarianists/Anarchists - what's the difference ?   (20 Oct 2008)
I'm curious as i've come across a few people now on boards.ie that subscribe to libertarianism. In essence though it seem exactly the same to me as Anarchism, except is followers are of the left and the opposite is true for libertarianism. My own personal opinion is to find many of the principles laudable but to have considerable skepticism of the ulterior motives of followers on both sides.

7. The Coolest Cat   (09 Dec 2008)
I just got off the phone with the man himself, one of the most influential waterman in history. The father of the modern surfboard and the man who revolutionized catamaran design and construction, Hobie is a legend that spans across vessels, disciplines, and sports. I first started thinking about Hobie when fuel went through the roof - the same economic issue that may have helped Hobie Cats get so big in the 70s. I thought he might be able to give sailors and industry insiders some perspective o...

9. Just 'dis justice again.   (23 Oct 2008)
I was thinking about one of the major drawbacks to anarchism lately, and about how some “anarchists” just seem to make retributions up as they go along, and call it justice. Specifically, I was in a thread on an anarchist website where the topic of rape was being discussed. A guest wanted to know how rape would be stopped in anarchism. Most of the replies went along the lines of: -abolish hierarchy, and you stop rape -teach women to fight better, it won’t happen as much -rape happens more now BE...

10. What is Anarchy?   (14 Nov 2008)
i removed about 10 words, it's a much better essay now link What Is Anarchy? by Butler Shaffer I have mixed feelings about the use of labels to describe philosophical views, whether of myself or others. It is difficult to avoid doing so because our efforts to understand and communicate about the world necessarily involve the use of words and words are, as Alfred Korzybski warned us, abstractions that never equate with what they are meant to describe. His oft-Quote: d statement that "the map is n...
