1. What do you THINK about THIS....   (13 Nov 2008)
What do you THINK about THIS.... Ok, I am really not sure how I get on all these mailing lists. I am constantly unsubscribing to things....but anyway I have gotten emails with info on "NAIS". Here is the latest one. "Don't sign up for animal ID system Friday, November 7, 2008 9:37 AM PST Editor: People who sign up for the NAIS (National Animal Identification System) - even those who are signed up without their knowledge - may find that they have signed a "no-knock lease" with the USDA. Who, in t...

2. RRFF Review - something to think about…   (10 Oct 2008)
This post is not going to make me the most popular bloke on here, but sharing opinions and providing information is the greater purpose of this website so I’ll have a crack. As an Ausfisher (with a background in science) I was at one of the recent RRFF meetings and was astonished with the way the DPI&F estimates of recreational catch and the varying estimates of the stock assessment (5 estimates ranging from conservative to less conservative) were immediately discounted as “fudged figures” and “...

3. A multi-author blog, or mulitple blogs?   (18 Nov 2008)
I'm looking for some advice on the best way to set up a multi-author blog. I'm in the process of setting up a blog that will have 4-6 authors, all blogging once a day, M-F. The topic (and consequently, the blog entry's subject) they are blogging on will be the same for each author each day, with each author's view of the subject being the main difference. I need advice in two areas. First, would it be better to set this up as one multi-author blog, or as 4-6 blogs which are linked to each other?...

4. If This Author Were a Chef . . .   (16 Nov 2008)
+IHS+ If your favourite author were a chef, what kind of cuisine would she (or he!) specialise in? I fancy that Jo Beverley dishes out experimental fusion cuisine, Kresley Cole is hosting a barbecue, Leigh Greenwood serves home cooked meals, and Julia Quinn does pastries and other deserts rather than main dishes. I'm still thinking about what kind of food Lisa Kleypas would serve, but I know it should be filling rather than fancy.

5. Paranormal Author Websites: What Do YOU Want? (Hi Stacia!)   (23 Dec 2008)
I hope Stacia Kane (the immensely talented author of Personal Demons) isn't irritated that I'm starting this thread but I recently received an email from her and she was updating me on the goings-on in her life (like the news that she and her husband are moving back to the States in a few months!). She mentioned that she was in the process of building a new and improved website and she asked me, "what do you think readers want?" What features do they like? Which features do they think are pointl...

6. TrekLit Authors' greatest novels   (29 Dec 2008)
I've been thinking about this for a couple of days now, and I wanted to hear your views and thoughts on this subject: Suppose for a second, that each TrekLit author has one magnum opus, one TrekLit masterpiece, one great Trek story that shines above all his other works (and above most other Trek novels) - what would your choices for these novels be? My "list" as it were is as follows: Diane Duane - Spock's World Diane Carey - Final Frontier Peter David - Imzadi Judith and Gar Reeves-Stevens - Mi...

7. Circular reasoning and the authority of the bible - Is circularity unavoidable...   (13 Oct 2008)
I posted in the "fine tuning" topic (and totally made a mess out of it) and Zzyzx responded with the following: Quote: : Here, in debate, you promote or defend a certain "god theory" (or hypothesis). Your proposal competes with thousands of other theories regarding "gods". What VERIFIABLE claims can you make in favor of your theory? If verifiable claims are not specific to your god theory, it cannot be deemed superior to competitive theories. When it comes to "verifiable claims", that's really w...

8. Something to think about   (11 Nov 2008)
On Tue, 11 Nov 2008 02:50:48 GMT, MangoMan <aleseeker@OberstUbahnfhrer.com From Dan Denning at the Old Hat Factory: --"Shares may slip as U.S. mood gets darker," reports Allison Jackson in today's Australian. Indeed. We've had some dark days in the last year here at the Old Hat Factory. But for whatever reason, today is one of the darkest that we can recall. --Here's a warning. Today's Daily Reckoning is largely about the growing tension between individual liberty and the coercive powe...

9. Screen Actors Guild seeking strike authorization from its members   (16 Dec 2008)
After a failed negotiating session with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) said it will begin seeking strike authorization from its members. All the other major entertainment industry unions/guilds have reached agreements with the AMPTP this year. The main sticking point with SAG is complete union coverage of Internet-only productions and residuals from Internet productions replayed online. The deals with the other guilds included addit...

10. If you are/were a well-known author...   (19 Nov 2008)
Do you think you should keep your political views, personal opinions, etc. hidden from the public? Whenever an actor or director says something political, we usually hear the response: Go back to acting/making movies; keep your opinions to yourself; what makes you an expert? But why? Shouldn't those people (and we, as writers) have the same right as anyone else to voice our opinions? And just because they're famous doesn't mean we have to listen to or agree with them. Or is it true that when you...
