With the increased popularity of Blu-Ray (BD), I was curious as to how you all felt about the following (My answers included).:
1-How many standard DVD's do you own? - Over 900
2-Would you be willing to part with your standard DVD's when the BD (Blu-Ray Disc) versions come out? - No. I've invested too much already & I enjoy what I have.
3-Is there a movie that if released as a BD today, you will immediately purchase a BD player? - "Gone With The Wind", "Grease" or "Pollyanna"

I thought I'd set up a poll to see how many are into Blu-ray or are thinking about getting into it - and how many have zero interest.
Prices are coming down, and I am 100% sure prices will drop dramatically before Christmas.

Blu-Ray player versus Upconvert DVD player

I have seen in store "demos" and heard various opinions from other people. I guess I really need a poll and a few more people's opinion to make a decision. Some people have stated that up-convert dvd players work just as well as Blu-Ray, but research suggests that the quality is better.
I have a 47" 1080p LCD screen and I'm trying to decide whether or not to get an up-convert DVD player or a Blu-Ray player. I'm NOT interested in getting a PS3 (Yes, I do know that it's the best of two worlds for...

Full disclosure, I'm a complete neophyte on game consoles and a certified luddite on home theaters, HD, and pretty much anything that runs off a remote control. Kids grown so last rev. of a game console is prolly a PS1.
The S.O. puts Blu Ray player on his wish list and wants Profile 2 compatibility for older DVD's. In looking at options, one school says get a PS3 (Santa is already bringing a Wii do we need another game console??) since you can readily download firmware, have great image quality,...

Baraka -- Blu-ray of the FOREVER

It's coming out October 28th, 2008. Everybody who has a Blu-ray player out there needs to get this movie. Not only is it one of the most beautiful movies ever made but now it's also the most beautiful Blu-ray of ALL TIMES!
Roger Ebert, in his blog(http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/...WS08/810150290), calls the Blu-ray "the finest video disc I have ever viewed or ever imagined," and concludes that "Baraka by itself is sufficient reason to acquire a Blu-ray player."
