My town's sporting team is better than yours!
(18 Sep 2008)
So I lament the lack of sports smack talking around here. In order to rectify that I'm going to make the bold statement that the Mets are going to collapse again this season and lose out to the Phillies in the NL East. Also they will lose out to the Brewers for the Wild Card (not because the Brewers will put them away, they'll just lose 1 more game). Also, the D-Backs will not catch the Dodgers. I don't really care much about the AL because the AL sucks. Here's my baseball post-season prediction...

One City, One Team

So I got an invitation to participate in a survey the other day in my
email box. Curious and with just a bit of time on my hands, I decided
to go ahead and take it. It was regarding the "One City, One Team"
advertising campaign that the Chicago Bears had launched. One of the
first questions was, "Was the message conveyed by the advertising
clear?" I had to admit...

Who would you pickup as a Pitcher?
(22 Oct 2008)
I'm breaking this out of the peavy thread, so we can focus on SP possibilities.
Last season, our SP's had the following innings:
Lester: 210 inn- 3.21 era. 152 k
Wake: 180 inn 4.13 era 117 k
Beckett:174 inn- 4.02 era. 172 K
Dice: 167 inn- 2.90 era 154 k
Masterson: 88 inn -3.16 ear 88 k
Buchholz: 76 inn -6.75 era 72k
Byrd:49 inn- 4.78era 29k
Colon: 39 inn -3.92 era 27 k
Total: 983 SP inning. We can guess Colon and Byrd with be gone. So we need 80 more innings from someone.
Here are the following...

What Is The Definiton of the BEST Team
(08 Oct 2008)
You hear opinions all the time about who is the best team. For example, based on the regular baseball season the Cubs and Angels appeared to be the "best" teams respectively in each league.
But do you measure a team by the regular season stats or is it the team that wins it all? Or do we need to qualify the definition? For example "The best team during the regular season"? or "The best team on paper". What do you think?

MLB Playoffs - All Are Welcome.
(02 Oct 2008)
Okay - excited about MLB playoffs.
Lots of good MLB cappers at EE - what are your thoughts at this point, guys?
Liking any particular teams? Thoughts on any particular series? G1s?
I am not an MLB capper, and do not follow MLB closely until September/October - but then it becomes a religion, on par with NFL.
Nonethelss, my take is probably akin to a Joe P. opinion.
As a fan, I love the Cubs. As a bettor, I have serious concerns about backing them in the POs.
A) They are the Cubs.
B) Zambrano is...

MLB Playoffs
(11 Oct 2008)
It's another couple of weeks before they kick off but why not start one up talking about teams who have clinched their divisions?
The Chicago Cubs clinched the National League Central Division today defeating their major rivals, the St. Louis Cardinals, and on their homefield at that. That must nice.
I forgot all about this but the Los Angeles Angels have already clinched their division.
Tampa Bay clinched a playoff berth but have yet to clinch the division.
EDIT: 9/25/08 The Los Angeles Dodgers...

Favourite books
(25 Aug 2008)
I know we've had threads about books before, but I'd like to make an effort to encourage people to post instead of just looking every day. So, in this thread, please tell us of your favourite books, why you liked them, and maybe suggest some similar titles. I'll start with some of my favourite books:
The Jungle Book and The Second Jungle Book - Rudyard Kipling
I've never been to India, or indeed any jungle. But, by reading the stories in these books, I really feel as if I have. Rudyard Kipling s...

Reading the Tea Leafs: Carlo Colaiacovo
(21 Sep 2008)
Following on the success of two other dormant series PPP and I have decided that in order to fill the gap in NHL news that we'll take a look at each of the current Leafs, possible Leafs on the Marlies, janitors, marketing interns and prospects. We'll recap their performance last year, what we can expect from them, reveal their fear of crickets and how they can win our hearts (hint: signing the contract was a good first step...unless your name is Bryan McCabe Ian White). We have no idea how long...
