From Detroit. Your Opinions on not
(12 Dec 2008)
This morning is going to bad here in Michigan and elsewhere. By now you may know that most foreign automakers are located in Tennessee, Texas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Toyota, Honda, Nissan etc.
The Big3 make honorable contributions when hurricanes roll through these Gulf states yet look at the contributions Toyota, Honda and Nissan made after 9/11. $0.00. They made nothing. One of them did actually make a public condolences statement.
Nothing against the good people of these southern st...

Your honest opinions. The City of Detroit

Some opinions maybe based on facts. Some on experience. Some on what you heard. And some maybe formed by the news. Drop your thoughts here. I'm just curious.

What Happens If Detroit Does Go Bankrupt
(19 Nov 2008)
I have been thinking about what happens if Detroit does fail. I am trying to think outside of the whole monster of employee and retiree benefits but for the industry as a whole.
Nature abhors a vacuum. Detroit still makes some nice automobiles the question then becomes who makes them and what will they make. The basics of the industry haven't changed. They have manufacturing space, quality vendors supplying them and ways to ship the end product both by land AND sea (lake).
Someone is going to ha...

Detroit bail out?
(06 Dec 2008)
Detroit bail out? I was just curious as to your opinions on the Detroit bail out talk going on.
We all have interests in the automobile etc so what your take?
I do not see why all the strings seem to be attached to the car industry bailout but no mention in the financial bail out?
It is funny to watch these supposed political leaders grilling the CEO's about their poor management demanding they be replaced but these politicians doing the grilling alone are responsible for 11 Trillion in our Nati...

The Autoextremist's interesting take on Detroit v Washington
(27 Nov 2008)
Take a moment and read the latest from Peter De Lorenzo.
Interesting point of view. Here are a couple of Quote: s but do try to read the whole thing.
Quote: : The glee with which the Washington establishment - and every two-bit instant car expert who decided it was high time to weigh-in with his or her opinions - attacked Detroit and whats left of the U.S. car industry last week was a sight to behold. Everyone from chief knucklehead Michael Moore to Neil Young (Neil Young?) got on the Detroi...

While Detroit Slept
(11 Dec 2008)
Now I remember why I like Thomas Friedman. A GREAT article on the new emerging auto industry.
As I think about our bailing out Detroit, I can’t help but reflect on what,
in my view, is the most important rule of business in today’s integrated and digitized global market, where knowledge and innovation tools are so widely distributed. It’s this: Whatever can be done, will be done. The only question
is will it be done by you or to you. Just don’t think it won’t be done. If you have an idea in Detr...

If you have an idea in Detroit or Tennessee, promise me that you’ll pursue it,...

Chris Bosh On Detroit's Wish List?
(07 Nov 2008)
Quote:
It is believed that the Pistons could make a strong run at Chris Bosh when he becomes a free agent in the summer of 2010.
Detroit took Darko Milicic over Bosh in the 2003 NBA Draft. At the time, Bosh requested a workout with the Pistons despite knowing they were focused on Milicic.
"I came away feeling that they liked it, but they were still gonna go with (Milicic)," Bosh said. "They kind of had their mind made up. But it's cool just to make people think about it sometimes."
In trading fo...

Detroit Diesel 8.2 Oil Pressure Opinions Needed
(15 Oct 2008)
I have a GMC 7000 with the 8.2 Fuel Pincher in it. It has been a good truck and engine for us. I drove it for the first time in a while (hired man usually drives) and noticed that the oil pressure was running low after it was up to operating temp.
Oil pressure is 50 psi at start up and fell to 30 when running hard at operating temp. When I pulled over at idle the pressure was 18 psi! After it sat for 15 min. it was 40 psi but when I got back on the road it went down to 30 again when coolant temp...
