1. How to Control Drilling Depth   (18 Nov 2008)
Hi All, I would like to ask your professional opinions regarding my concern. I would like to know how to control the depth when drilling into a metal sheet or any metal for that matter. Say, I have a 3mm thick aluminum sheet, and I want to drill a 2mm deep hole with precision, the fact that I will be using a manual drill. How do you think I should do it? Well, the reason for this is I want to attach another metal to it by tapping the 2mm hole. Do you think a 1mm gap will be enough not to overdo...

4. Drilling Perpendicular Holes without a Drill Press   (23 Dec 2008)
Hey everyone, I tried to drill the holes for the bridge posts for the Les Paul copy guitar I'm building only to discover that my drill press isn't deep enough. Any suggestions on how to drill this with my handheld drill? I was thinking about attaching 3 speed squares around the holes and putting the drill in between all of them. At least then I'll have a reference for keeping the drill upright. Think this will work? Alternatively, if I decide to buy a router bit to do this with my plunge router...

5. Drilling around old holes   (06 Dec 2008)
I have new pearl bass drum spurs. My old spurs only needed 3 holes for mounting. The pearl spurs need 4. My only concern is weakening the area where the spurs go due to drilling new holes around the old ones. Anyone have an experiences with this? My kit is a custom Epek out of regina saskatchewan canada. I am not sure what kind of spurs they were shipped with. Anyways any help opinions would help. I am comfortable with drilling the holes I'm just worried about the shell becoming weak.

6. Drilling Vistalites   (17 Nov 2008)
I've acquired a Vistalite kit where the toms do not have a bottom skin. They sounds quite ringy and I'm wondering if drilling new holes and adding lugs would be a good idea...Any thoughts and opinions on this??? I'd rather not mess with the original kit but in the same way I feel I can make them sound different by doing this... Any thoughts and info would be appreciated. Thanks TIm

7. Dumb Question: Drilling Holes in Cabin Walls   (31 Dec 2008)
Hello Everyone, I've been searching here, but I can't find the exact answer to my question. (It's probably too elementary to appear here.) So, I'll lead with my chin and ask anyway. I'm thinking about installing boat hook brackets, a fire extinguisher bracket (inside the cabin), maybe some hand holds, and possibly a couple of cam cleats - all on the top/outside of the cabin. Here's my question: Can I simply drill holes in the fiberglass and mount these with (stainless steel) machine screws and n...

9. Drilling and Plumbing a 33L   (12 Dec 2008)
I am finally getting to putting together my new tank. Its going to be a 33L with a 10 gallon sump. I want to drill the back of the tank for the drain and return. I'm looking for some suggestions on what size they should be. I was looking at glass-holes and was thinking about a 1" bulkhead for the drain and a 3/4" for a return. Some one also suggested the I should do two drains and 2 returns since the tank is so long (48"). Any suggestions?
