For all of you that celebrate Halloween (it is not a tradition in my country), here is something to think about. You should take care with alcohol... or you will end up like this pumpkin who drunk a bit too much

Can we talk about getting drunk?
(18 Oct 2008)
And I'm not talking about fratboy, college kid, binge drinking, go-until-you-puke immature drink to get drunk behaviour...
I'm not a regular poster here, but I check in and post every now and then and I notice that we don't really talk all that much about intoxication. Taste, and style, and industry, and innovation... sure.
But we all enjoy a beverage that can create a distinct physical affect that can be quite pleasurable.
So tonight I am a little drunk. We went to our local pub after work, and...

An idea to decrease drunk driving
(26 Sep 2008)
I have two basic premises. First, people who drive drunk are bad drivers because they are drunk. Its not that they have bad driving skills, its that theyre drunk. If they werent drunk they probably wouldnt have gotten into an accident. As long as they are not drunk, they are probably ok drivers. Second, taking away a persons license does not make it harder for them to drive drunk. As long as you have access to a vehicle and alcohol, you can drive drunk. Having a drivers license or not doesn...

wrecked by a drunk driver
(01 Oct 2008)
So last Sunday morning i went out to my car to go and get a coffee. I see mud all over the hood and front bumper, upon taking a closer look i see that the entire passenger side is smashed from the rear quarter panel to the passenger fender. The door, the quarter, the mirror, and the pass fender is crushed and scraped far beyond repair.
I called it in as a hit and run only to be told that someone is already handling the case and that they needed to call me back in a few minutes. I get a call back...

Drunk driving video
(20 Oct 2008)
If you're thinking about driving drunk, watch "Untitled" by Simple Plan. It's the saddest song in the world and it's an anti-drunk driving video.
The only bad thing about it is the message at the end. MADD mentions something about teens killed in drunk driving crashes, even though the adult in the video is clearly at fault.

Obviously drunk Passenger in F and FA does nothing
(24 Sep 2008)
This morning I flew from LAS to PHX on a plane that departed at 6:45am. Pax across the aisle from me asked for and received a Heineken pre-departure. I know it's Vegas and no doubt this guy had been up all night, but quite honestly, isn's 6:15am a bit early to be drinking? He was loud but playful to the FA and she brought him his beer.
the guy was probably high 20's, maybe low 30's and talked non stop to his seatmate, a guy 60+. Once airborne, the guy had 2 more beers.
Before we even departed, I...

I'm drunk and I just watched the ending to Star Trek III. The bit where Spock says "You came back for me" and Kirk replies "You would have done the same for me." Lovely.
That's what Spock's doing in the new film I reckon.
Ban me for spamming the boards with horseshit if you want. Watching that and thinking about the new movie tugged my heartstrings a liittle.

Thinking about slsh's post...
(08 Nov 2008)
I am curious...what have dr's/councelors suggested that you really think helps with Bipolar behavior in your children?
One thing I learned from AA and Al Anon is to try and not speak in Extremes...to speak in terms of: possibly, could be, may be, might sometimes, etc. One of the things I think children/people with Bipolar do is to "think" in extremes. It's All or Nothing, ya know...I think they tend to see themselves and others in terms of Absolute good or bad too.
What specifics have you been g...

colleagues coming to work drunk/hung over
(22 Nov 2008)
what do you think about having colleagues who come to work semi-drunk * in her own words - alcohol running in her veins* or severely hung over?
ever experience this? is this common?
anyone in critical care area in healthcare that have colleagues who come into work with these issues? i've asked a few MD friends and they cannot recall any of their colleagues coming into work with alcohol running in their veins - I guess this bunch just knows when to pick and choose to drink and party.
What are you...
