What's considered as an "PHP Enterprise Application"?
(04 Nov 2008)
Hi,
some php5 book's (try to) explain the construction of "Enterprise Applications" (at least the book title says so). Is there a common sense in the PHP world about the conditions / parameters under which an "Application" is considered as an "Enterprise Application"? I guess this term comes fromt he Java-Folks, am i right? When i think about that term, i come up with topics like: scalability, security, bridges to legacy software, orm, profiling & performance, applications-servers.
Are there ope...

Star Trek Enterprise Novels
(31 Dec 2008)
So I have been given the first half of the first season of Enterprise for christmas (yes, they do sell those series in half-season boxes right now...assimilating all our money...) and will be through with my three discs reasonably soon. As I don't see myself spending a lot of money on DVDs in the near future I was thinking about maybe reading an Enterprise novel.
Are there Enterprise novels aside from the few an Amazon search showed me? And has there also been a 'relaunch'?
I'd be happy to get a...

Enterprise... not fun enough? Too serious?
(24 Nov 2008)
I've read more than once in the Trek XI forum things that suggest, both directly and indirectly that the Trek's sequel series' (and of course, Enterprise as the immediate ancestor) lacked fun. Something the new film (cl)aims to deliver on.
The Trek XI trailer has established reactions such as, "Trek is finally FUN again!", so that leads me to wonder... was Enterprise really serious?
Of course, nothing is goofier than TOS... and DS9 got silly quite frequently, but I'm trying to remember if Enterp...

SameTime 8 vs RIM Enterprise Messenger.
(06 Dec 2008)
I've been trying to get SameTime 8 to work on our BlackBerries for some time and while troubleshooting I installed RIM's Enterprise Messenger 2.1.10c (Which worked like a charm without any problem what so ever). So I thinking about just rolling out RIM's Enterprise Messenger. Since I never got SameTime 8 working would there be any advantages a working to get SameTime 8 working or should I stick with RIM's any noticable Pros/Cons?
(I saw a previous thread from the beginning of this year but I wan...

Reactions To The New USS Enterprise
(14 Nov 2008)
With the details of the new Enterprise appearing recently, professionals and fans alike are weighing in with their opinions of the newly-designed ship.
As reported by TrekMovie, to some fans, a ship is just a vehicle to get to the story or on which a story takes place, but to others, a ship is much more than that, and every bit of design is carefully scrutinized and critiqued.
Former Star Trek designer Rick Sternbach, responsible for the design of many Star Trek ships and stations, had this to s...

The New Enterprise Reveald
(12 Nov 2008)
So here she is, the new Enterprise.
Personally, I think the nacelles are grotesque and the deflector has a somewhat unfinished look to it. Also, the secondary hull is poking out from under the neck a bit too fiercely for my taste. I appreciate the retro-curvey style they went for and the primary hull looks good. However, in summary, it's not exactly what I would call an inspired homage to the original. Its more like a copy of the refit with a bit of wackyness thrown in to set its self apart.
So...

Enterprise Computer Model
(05 Dec 2008)
I am trying to figure out how to share my refit Enterprise computer model. The problem is one of size. In STL format, it takes up several CDs. In PDF format, just the bridge closeups come out to be 100MB. I can't handle downloads like that on my web site. I was thinking about CDs but I contacted the Star Trek Gods about licensing the model and they said "Go away" and don't sell it (Now I see why no one asks them for licenses for stuff). I gave away a couple of 5-CD sets of STLs but I am not doin...
