Nov 08 Firehouse Mag. Article "POV's Kill" - Firehouse Forums - Firefighting...
(20 Nov 2008)
Just to throw the though out there to see if anyone else would agree, Mike Wilbur wrote an article for Firehouse Magazine (Nov 08) EV Ops section titled "Warning: POV's Kill". It seems to me that maybe that should be titled "Warning: POV Drivers Kill". Not to get into symantics here, but a vehicle never killed anyone. It's usually been the immature, reckless, untrained, or irresponsible drivers of the POV that cause the accident that kills someone. Two of the Three examples given were of FF's ag...

Leathers Firehouse Forums - Firefighting Discussion
(21 Dec 2008)
Looking for some good leather boots. At my last job we had Pro Warrington's and they seemed to be pretty nice, and where I now work (just finished the pre-entry academy Friday and start shift work on Wednesday) we can choose, and pay for, anything we want so long as it is 14" and NFPA 1971 compliant I believe. Opinions appreciated! Thanks.

(01 Dec 2008)
This Will be a thread of the Century.. Im desperately trying not to break my keyboard while writing this.
Ok.. I have already stated my previous gripes with this game before only to recieve the finger from some of the EPIC mods as i was the first to post & mention a fix with Region filtering as an Option in Gears 2, but this time im going to post another gripe that is becoming even more apparent when playing more public matches.
Okay where to start..when you played the original you got that sens...

Rooftop solar panels/tubes --> problems for firefighters...
I was just thinking about how a lot of solar cell technology is getting better every week and it's great, but they would be very problematic for firefighters that have to get on a roof and vent the building/house to gain strategic access, reduce the heat load, slow spread of the fire, and prevent a flashover.
If you have an "easily removable" installation, there's a risk of *theft* - so maybe have a "firefighter key" that can be used...

Your opinion for digital handheld scanner
(30 Nov 2008)
I have owned scanner radios since the days of crystal radios. My son is in firefighting training and I would like your opinions for a Christmas present. It must be handheld, digital with trunking ability. I am a loyal Bearcat ( from when it was only Bearcat) and Uniden user, but am WIDE-OPEN to your suggestions. I have researched Radio Shack, Uniden,Bearcat. I have seen GRE on the internet only and know nothing about them...Good or bad. Please feel free to Love, Hate and be totally honest about...

I need some advice...
(07 Dec 2008)
I'm currently a sophmore in college majoring in construction, and have been on a volunteer fire dept. for a little over a year. I've decided that I want to pursue career in both... I was thinking about it for a long time, and realized it would be too hard to leave the fire service once I graduated college; I love it way too much! I guess my question to you guys is do any of you have two careers (one being firefighting), and if so is it easy to manage?
Stay safe,
JD

Hybrid vehicle myths and firefighter rescue
(30 Oct 2008)
I posted similar topic in extrication, but wanted to get the best exposure to this topic. I want to bring a couple ideas to the table about hybrid myths I've recently learned about. I want others' opinions and if it has been explained to anyone else the same way. I was at a conference this past weekend and a representative from a company called MGS Tech. did a shortened (1hr.) class on clearing up myths on hybrid technology vehicles (as well as alternative fuel vehicles). He basically stated tha...
