Tony Parker is Basketball's Derek Jeter
(08 Nov 2008)
Apologies if this correlation has been made before, but with all the buzz around half-black/half-white (you mean to tell me you thought he was all-black?) President-elect Barack Obama, it got me thinking about other popular icons in America of multi-ethnicity.
No, not timvp, although he is a legend as far as I am concerned.
Tony Parker and Derek Jeter!
Both are loved by women and respected by men for their looks and athletic prowess.
Parker has 3 titles as the point guard of the Spurs, while Jet...

What would happen if the Yankees didnt bring back Derek Jeter?
(13 Nov 2008)
Quote: Posted by: Joseph P. in Hot Stove League. Tagged: Derek Jeter
Its been all over the baseball wires this week: The San Diego Padres have pulled their offer for closer Trevor Hoffman, and by all appearances he wont be back with the team in 2009. This is not going over well with San Diegoans (San Diegans). Theyve known Trevor since 1993, when he came over in a trade which sent Gary Sheffield to Florida. Since then hes racked up 554 saves, more than anyone in major league history. To San...

OT: Jeter

I don't know if anyone ever posted this but I thought it was really funny
http://joeposnanski.com/JoeBlog/2008...ek-jeter-i-do/
People dont believe me when I say that I really like Derek Jeter. I do! I think Jeter is an excellent player. I think Jeter is a smart player. I love the guys tenacity hes only missed 15 games in a season once and I like his .317/.387/.461 lifetime line, and I respect that he will give you some power, some speed, and more often than not really good at-bats. And h...

The Unpopular Opinions in Sports Thread
(20 Nov 2008)
Because I'm obsessed with these today, I'm starting a sports one.
-Tom Brady is overrated.
-Derek Jeter is overrated.
-Baseball needs a salary cap.
-The BCS system is stupid.
-The SEC is overrated by ESPN.
I'll post more as I think of them.

Derek Jeter apparently cant field. the least effective defensive player...
(05 Nov 2008)
http://zellspinstripeblog.com/2008/1...-any-position/
A group that tracks every ball hit in the majors says Derek Jeter is the worst fielder in baseball.
Stats guru Bill James, author of the Baseball Abstract, and a panel of nine other voters, ranked Jeter 22nd among all major-league shortstops, with one calling Jeter the least effective defensive player in the major leagues, at any position.
Given every vector and every type of hit, they assigned a percentage probability that the ball woul...

Yanks Should Re-Sign Abreu
(04 Jan 2009)
What do you guys think about resigning Bobby Abreu? IMO, it would be smart to trade Matsui and Nady and pick him up on a one year contract. By trading Matsui and Nady, you get a few prospects for the farm and free up money for Abreu, who would problably cost about the same or even less than what Matsui is making. While I'm OK with the current lineup, with Tex likely 3rd and A-Rod 4th, I'm not a huge fan of the protection behind A-Rod. By signing Abreu, he gets put back in the 3 hole and Tex can...

Seven Year Anniv. Nov. 4 2001: Game 7- What would you trade for a win?
(03 Nov 2008)
Tomorrow is the 7-year anniversary of the most shocking and crushing defeat for me as a Yankee fan. 2004 you could see coming as the momentum swung toward BOS and ultimately, they were playing for the AL crown. This was the World Series, this was 9/11, this would have been a miraculous 4-peat with 12 consecutive postseason series wins (and two 0-2 comebacks- ALDS & WS), and it would have been a great sendoff for those dynasty teams of O'Neill, Tino, Brosius, etc.
Even after seven years, I would...
