1. Bad joints   (02 Dec 2008)
Any of you guys running into problems with your joints? Like your wrists and elbows from lifting too heavy? Mine started acting up when I began ez-bar curling the bar + 160lbs my last set of 5. Being only 6'0 and 185 with small bone structure, my muscles were growing too fast for my joints I guess. I think I may need to go lighter on the weight next time around, but is there anything I can take/do for my joint pain? Also, has anybodys sternum/breastbone ever popped while doing weighted dips? It...

2. D35 Ball Joints - Moog or Duralast?   (11 Nov 2008)
So at 160,000 miles on my 16 year old explorer it's finally time to do the ball joints. I've been researching options and prices. I'd like to get Moog parts because of their reputation and the fact that it's such a pain to change the things I may as well put the best possible parts in there. On the other hand, autozone sells their duralast brand ball joints that are greasable and have a lifetime warranty, just like the Moog parts, and are cheaper and don't have to be special ordered. I've genera...

3. What's Worse, Joints that are Stuck or Too Loose?   (21 Nov 2008)
What's worse to you? Joints on figures that are too loose, too tight, or even stuck? This is probably a stupid topic, but I'm just curious what you think. Let me know some of your experiences with this. Here are a couple of mine. I used to hate when I'd purchase a new figure, open it up and one or more of the joints was too loose. Sometimes super glue therapy would help, but it's a dangerous game. I accidentally glued more than one joint forever in place. While some joints were so loose (like th...

4. Longfield's as CV joints?   (06 Nov 2008)
For some odd reason I was thinking about making burly cv joints for IFS. I was thinking that birfs are cv's so what about using Longfields as your cv joints. I do realize that spindles and bearings may be a problem, you'd have to figure a way top attach cv boots, but besides that, is there any reason that you could't use them? Acutally this is part of a much greater thought I had been thinking of. It consisted of replacing the 7.5" front diff with an 8" diff and custom housing using birfs as bot...

5. Better Joints?   (13 Dec 2008)
I have two main questions/ideas that I cant find answers to. I have found similar threads, but cant seem to find what Im looking for. Im looking at upgrading/freshening up my ttb u-joints, as well as my drive shafts. #1. I've already upgraded to the D50 stub shaft, so that is good to go. I've been considering the JBG special outers(see below) that should be stronger than stock (?) and allow for full C-clips (better than c-clips?). Are these worth it, and would they actually be stronger than stoc...

7. Control/Movement joints   (31 Oct 2008)
Done enough tile (ceramic, marble, and slate) to know my way around with regard to smaller jobs. Things like bathrooms, foyers, mudrooms, kitchens, showers, etc. The largest single area application that I've done was about 16'x24' before transitions to carpet and hardwood. The current job is quite a bit larger, so I could use some advice. I've attached a scan of the main floor plan. HO wants pretty much the entire main floor (1400s.f.) done in 18"x18" marble. There will be a 6"x18" border around...

8. Jonny joints Or keep poly bushings   (17 Oct 2008)
I was going to delete the poly bushings for jonny's so that I can lower the radius arms a little to correct caster and have better flex. After reading another thread some guys like the polys cause they ride better and this is my winter DD.... I don't want to make the truck ride any worse... I'm trying to make it better and add flex... I am doing this now because I have a leaking slave cylinder so the trans will already be out of the truck and I also need to replace my pivot bushings. Here is my...

9. Cracking/clicking joints   (28 Dec 2008)
Random as fuck but what is waffle for? Who enjoys doing this I think its a love or hate thing, I love the feeling when you have a nice stretch an crack you fingers neck etc, also when you twist you back an feel each bone in you spine crack one after the other, an so do some of my other mates, but the girls hate it an cringe when you do it. 10. lithium vs. moly grease, u joints, BMW R100GS   (26 Nov 2008)
On Wed, 26 Nov 2008 13:41:47 -0800 (PST), Rob Kleinschmidt <Rkleinsch1216128@aol.com I've seen conflicting opinions on the appropriate U joint grease for shaftys. Currently I'm using Mobil1 synthetic, which I gather is a lithium based NLGI (?) rating 2 grease. Recently I noticed one rebuilder reccomending moly based. Anybody have any opinions on this ?
