Councils ban use of Latin terms
(05 Nov 2008)
Maybe I;m just an elitist snob, but this article raised my ire today. I can't believe people can be this petty, after all these Latin terms are de facto English words and phrases. Why must we always pander to the lowest common denominator, and as for the opinions the Plain English Campaign
I'm sure this sort of thing would never happen in Finland.
Quote: Councils ban use of Latin terms
Several councils have banned the use of Latin terminology
A number of local councils in Britain have banned...

What do you know about Brasil or Latin America?
(22 Nov 2008)
Wandering around the Darkfall forums, I've noticed that my country is some kind of primitive third world place, where we live on trees - we're monkeys, you know - and we're poor as fuck.
http://forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php?t=65388
So, my fellow gaffers, what do you know about Brasil? Are we a bunch of ignorant idiots playing on ours Pentium MMX?
Jokes apart, I'd like to know what do you people think about Brasil or maybe Latin America in general (it's not the same thing lol).
Thanks...

Latin America - by motorcycle or buses
(23 Oct 2008)
I know this forum is just for motorcycle trips but I've gotta be honest with you guys.
I've been planning a big motorcycle trip from Los Angeles, CA to Peru for next summer. I was going to buy a DR650 and just do it. I'm taking Spanish classes. I'm working my tail off saving money. It's all kinda going towards that idea.
Today my brother found a postcard that my cousin had sent our grandmother in 1999 from Guatemala. He was tripping through Central America, taking buses.
I never thought about ta...

Affiliate means "adding a son" in Latin
(19 Dec 2008)
I thought is was interesting that the definition of affiliate comes from the Latin work affīliāre, which means to adopt. Breaking it down a step further the word fīlius means "son", so the whole word means "adding a son".
I think it is interesting sometime to see where words came from and think about their meaning in today's terms. Something tells me that the responsibility we take of being an affiliate, or signing up an affiliate, is not nearly as great as "adding a son"!
By the same token, whe...

Female Latin Shoe review
(21 Nov 2008)
Sorry for yet another shoe thread, but i feel that for people like me (that cant buy latin dance shoes IRL because there are just no shops nearby, and has to order everything online) or just for people that are curious about trying new brands or models.
All of you that have tried different brands and models, it would be great if you could do a short statement about the shoe. Positive/Negative, Whats particular about that shoe, If its flexible/not flexible, Stable/not stable etc... It would be gre...

facial expressions (latin)
(31 Dec 2008)
Ok so im not sure if im really understanding the whole concept of facial expressions. there are some things i havent figured out yet,, maybe you can help...
So first of all, i wonder, are there any rules regarding facial expressions?
I understand the fact that the dancer has to express the dance in every possible way, and the face is a great "tool". But ive seen alot of weird expressions (for instance, yulia zagarouthecnko) where i get confused.. sometimes it feels that some dancers just over-do...

If Uxor Is Latin For Wife Is Ux The Girlfriend?
(18 Oct 2008)
I haven't really tackled UX (User eXperience) because it is more an art than a science, a concept rather than a tool, and everyone is a critic.
However, UX has significant potential ROI, if one can form viable test frameworks, replicable metrics, and a practical process. Why? Because while a great product/service can bring customers back for more...a great experience has them bring/refer friends. UX provides marketing and conversion leverage with it's potential to transform one into many.
To me...

Thinking about Vocation
(19 Oct 2008)
I posted this on the traditional forum first, not noticing that there was a place specifically for vocations.
I'm beginning to feel as if I am called to be a priest. Actually, it's not correct to say "beginning," because I felt the call many years ago as a child and many times since then, but I'm just beginning to embrace it. Since returning to the Church (right around the time of Summorum Pontificum), I've been drawn to the EF and have been blessed to have that mass celebrated every sunday at o...
