Thinking about a zoom lens (sigma 150-500?) for the 40D and other concerns...

Hello all,
i have been following this forum for a long time, but this is only my 4th or 5th post i think.
I have the 40D for about a year now and i am thinking of purchasing a zoom lens. I currently have the 17-85 IS kit lens that came with the camera and i think that i will go for the sigma 150-500. I would like to know what you think about this lens as far as image quality is concerned.
My major concern is that buying this lens is a big investment and i hesitate mainly because in about 4 years...

I'm moving up from the P&S world and into the dSLR world.
My first acquisition - a Canon Xsi.
It's a body only so I'm looking for a lens. I guess there's a few choices I need to make:
1. Go for the kit 18-55 for now (supposedly decent for the money but far from great) Cost - $100-$150
2. Find a good used 17-85 IS (which is supposedly the 40D kit lens) for a little bit more. (I've seen some used ones for $300)
3. Something else? Suggestions?
I was also thinking about getting the 50mm f/1.8 prime...

need a good travel lens. Thinking about canon 18-200 IS or 24-70 USM:

--We have a Canon rebel eos xti. We love to take photos and travel. We are looking for a great lens to take a variety of photos. We would really like a lens with wide angle with some zoom. We take about the same about of indoor as outdoor photos. It is very important to us to have high quality photos of our travels. We are considering the Canon 18-200 IS and the Canon 24-70 USM. We are open to any other options. If anyone has any advice on these lenses we would appreciate it.

I am about to sell the kids and buy an M8 ($1800 Leica M8/lens rebate announced this week helps). I will initially go with a 35mm focal length lens and I am wondering which lens family to go with.
Any opinions on the new Summarit-M models with an M8?

Lens cap suggestions for Pancake lens?:

Well, I knew it would happen and it did. I went on a trip to San Francisco and lost the screw on lens cap for my Zuiko pancake lens.
Does anyone have suggestions for a replacement? Preferably a snap on one. Links / URLs and opinions please?

FZ28 UV protection lens & how to clean lens?:

Hi,
I know the question re pros and cons of UV protection lens for the FZ28 has made rounds here but I am not sure if there is actually a consensus.
I bought a FZ28 to replace my aging Canon S2IS and I simply love it, especially the 27mm wide angle! I used it in the rainy one day and now there are rain spots on the lens, hence me thinking about cleaning it and putting a UV filter to 1) potentially improve image quality and 2) to protect the lens.

Kit Lens vs L Lens:

Hi
I've got a 350D with the standard 18-55 lens (not the IS version) and looking to replace this as I've not been hugely impressed with the quality (lack of sharpness, contrast, colour reproduction and sense of depth to the pictures). I'm thinking about saving hard and getting the 24-105 F/4 L lens as the focal length fits in nicely with the type of shots I'd be taking. Later on I'd be looking to get a full-frame camera too.

Hey guys
I broke my 18-55 lens when I dropped my D50 on the kitchen counter.
Now I have the choice of buying another 18-55 or even the 18-55, buy the 18-135 OR buy something like the Nikon 28mm f2.8.
I love my Nikon 50mm f1.8 and would love to have another prime lens in my arsenal.
Looking for opinions from the veterans and suggestions for other/better prime lenses that Could possibly be used as everyday lenses.
90% of my usage is taking pictures of my 5 and 6 yr old.

Superzoom lens for A700 opinions please:

I would appreciate any help/advice on which 'superzoom' to buy for my A700. I have read reviews, but any actually experience would really help me. I am looking at the Sony 18-250/18-200 and Sigma/Tamron equivalents. I am using a Sigma 18-125mm DC lens currently and am very pleased with the quality and close focus it gives me, but that extra length would prove useful.

Lens selection for 50D - your opinions needed:

Hi all,
I've just sent my 20D and 17-85 to my son for Xmas. So now I'm considering the 50D as replacement. I've read many posts on lenses, but thought you could advise me on the following options to go with the 50D. I already have the 10-22, so please add that to all the options below.
As you can see, any of these options are serious money, so I'd like to make the best decision possible the first time out.
