MMORPG's: WAR, WotLK, the future, and boredom from WoW Server Maintenance...
(02 Dec 2008)
I actually made a short post based on the below Quote: in the official WAR thread, but the longer it got the more I wanted these thoughts to be in a separate thread for discussion so it wouldn't get lost in other discussion.
Anyways, here goes!
Quote: : I don't know how fast WoTLK is going to get boring. I'm enjoying it and not really in a super rush to level like I was in TBC. The atmosphere in wotlk is very very dramatic. I completely agree. I've played off and on since 2006. When BC came out,...

MMORPGs; totally alien from P&PRPGs??
(15 Nov 2008)
Hi folks,
this is a continuation of a topic brought up in "First Thoughts" but I'll repost the key points so you don't have to go hunting. I had posted a link to an article discussing issues to consider for game designers building MUDs or MMOGs more generally (multi-user dungeons, massively multiplayer online games). The article is at: http://www.mud.co.uk/richard/hcds.htm
The article suggests that there are four major categories for any given activity that a player can participate in, those cat...

mmorpg/rpg in general critique (specifics, people!)
(08 Nov 2008)
Below is a e mail, which in turn may be viewed as a full blown MMORPG review. What's your opinion?
http://www.trywarcraft.com/
Wes plays WOW even. wow WoW whatever.
It is over hyped and probably very good. Compared to other MMORPGS it has to be at least in the same class.
Graphics nearly top notch (if not already at the level of every other) and skills system similar to diablo 2, but improved upon.
There's a bank, and plus it is also similar to Everquest or so I gather. I'll find everquest websi...

Serenity - Now open for business !
(14 Nov 2008)
Greetings to one and all... well except the destruction folks... well cause they are just evil pure and simple, evil I tell you !
Anyways ill get on with it and apologize for the poor opening line and any more that might follow.
Serenity is the home of a bunch of old mmorpg addicts, most of us have been playing since the days of good old Everquest. In general we are a decent enough bunch, at least we like to think so, but you know what the say about opinions.... Most of us have stumbled in and o...

Formula for property ownership
(24 Dec 2008)
I've been toying with concepts for an MMORPG (probably like a lot of people here) I I've been thinking about land ownership features.
Land ownership differs from the kinds of property you can normally posses in a video game in two ways. First, it's finite. You can't just go out and make more. Second, it's relative. It's use is directly related to the land around it.
Normally in games property is inviolate. You posses it until you willingly give it up or you stop being a player. This can lead to...

Your opinion on darkfall release date!? - Darkfall Forums
(21 Nov 2008)
What I want to know is two separate things:
Firstly I don't really play much mmorpgs or know a lot about them but what I wanted to know is how will I look at the screen and will I be able to change it to a 3rd person aerial view.
Secondly When do you think Darkfall will be released and your reasons why.
My opinion is in January because open beta hasn't even been hinted as starting anytime soon.

12.11.06 Age III and Warchiefs in Top Ten
Monday, December 11, 2006
Age III and Warchiefs in Top Ten: Voodoo Extreme recently posted a list of the top 20 best selling PC games and it had Age III at #7 and The Warchiefs at #10. I am guessing this is for the previous week. We feel good about that ranking both for a game over a year old and an expansion pack. There were few FPS games on the list and few games that werent sequels to established franchises....

- Savage 2 - Dev's opinion ?
(30 Dec 2008)
Hey guys, I found out this thread accidentaly
http://forums.savage2.com/showthread.php?t=14204
And noticed that the devs considered this game to be (one month ago) - commercialy - a fail.
Well, I first found out about this game about a month or so ago, while browsing Darkfall forums, where a player from over here I guess, started a thread to talk about this game.
I went to try it out, and was instantly amazed by the game, I thought to myself " Wow, this is a great F'in game, love the concept, th...

Two Cool RPGs
(22 Oct 2008)
I bought Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and it was one of the best games I've ever bought.
Great soryline, lots to do. Choose the path of the dark side or the light side. Just an awesome game. KOTOR 2 was no where near as good, storyline was pathetic. They couldn't even bother putting new worlds in there. Now they are making a MMORPG, not sure what thats going to be like.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is one of the best xbox360 games I've bought. The main storyline is not amazing and i...

Opinion: Why A Game Designer Outgrew Video Games

Opinion: Why A Game Designer Outgrew Video Games
Opinion: Why A Game Designer Outgrew Video Games [As kids grow, they may trade Dr. Seuss for George Orwell, and Nickelodeon for CNN -- but for what can they trade Super Mario Bros.? In this opinion piece, designer Brice Morrison laments the lack of truly mature games -- and examines what "adulthood" for games might look like.]
My mother was never interested in games when I was little. Looking up from her newspaper, she would give a soft smile as s...
