1. Mainstreaming Special Needs Kids   (27 Nov 2008)
So I was watching Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel last night (one of my favorite shows).  One of their feature stories was about Andrew Lawson, a high school teenager with Down syndrome.  When he was born, his parents made the decision to "mainstream" Andrew.  They would not send him to a special school.  Instead, they would surround him with average kids in an average small-town public school system.  Andrew lives in Norwell, Mass., a small suburb of Boston, and he was a SUPERSTAR in high school...

2. Christianity & Non-"mainstream" Sexual Practices   (04 Nov 2008)
I can understand how people who hail from religious traditions of Christianity such as Roman Catholicism and others that base their beliefs on tradition AND the Bible could object to sexual practices then the ones' proscribed for them by the Pope or tradition. But I never could understand how Christian traditions that base their theology on "Sola Scritora" or The Bible alone, could condemn a wide variety of sexual practices. Briefly stated, the Sola Scriptora or "Bible alone" tradition takes the...

3. Literature and movies that aren't quite so mainstream (your opinions)   (03 Jan 2009)
Ok, so this is partially prompted by Retro's post about "Slumdog Millionaire" and his having recently rented The Kite Runner. I saw "Slumdog Millionaire" about two weeks ago and thought that it was a fantastic movie and was pleasantly surprised by it. I had been drug off to it because a certain female companion was dying to see it and told me it was a romance/comedy (obviously she had no clue what the hell it was). So instead it turned out to be one of the best movies that I've seen come out of...

4. When do you think anime will become more mainstream?   (27 Oct 2008)
The anime market has hit it's peak and isn't going to get more popular than it did in previous years. Showing on TV that isn't ABC, FOX, or other major station isn't improving the popularity either. Since the view of animation in the U.S is never going to change or going to change incredibly slowly, either for good or bad. IMHO, the only path that I can see is to have good or above average live adaptations of anime. Speed Racer was decent but the success was hampered by many factors. Transformer...

5. Why the Mainstream Media has next to no credibility   (30 Oct 2008)
I figured this would be better in it's own thread. Quote: : And the point that we've all been trying to make is that you need to look for information in less biased places. You've done an admirable job of toeing the Fox News line, but that doesn't make you (or them) right. In answer to your question, the fact is that the other news agencies have lost all credibility, even some of their own reporters are commenting on it. Quote: : Meanwhile, I watched with disbelief as the nation's leading newspa...

6. (11/14): "Mainstream Media Need Rehab For Liberal [Obama] Overdose" (Townhall...   (14 Nov 2008)
Quote: : Liberalism is the cream mainstream journalists take with their coffee nowadays and is as much a part of the industry as late-night deadlines. When Obama aides choose to leak an important story, as they reportedly did on Bush and Obama’s White House tête-à-tête Monday, that story appears as a New York Times exclusive. I can’t think of a more obvious bias unless the Obama camp starts leaking to Chris Matthews (who will be more effective as unofficial press secretary for the Obama administ...

7. Research: How to make pb mainstream?   (06 Nov 2008)
So I'm doing a research assignment project and I need to look at all the alternative ways to make paintball a similar sport I'm currently exploring non-paintball sponsorships and don't know where to go from there. What I need from AO: personal opinions about to/not to make paintball main stream, how? Any links to current non paintball sponsorships and professional teams Thanks guys.

8. Thinking about buying a Tanaka   (17 Nov 2008)
THB-260PF. How does it compare from a performance standpoint against the stihl sh-85 and echo es-230? I will need the vacuum/shredder attachment as well. I have never owned a Tanaka and considering one. Reasons why I am reluctant to buy it: No local dealers. Well I called 3. One never returned phone call with price, another had almost no idea what I was talking about. Still waiting on call back from 3rd. I can only assume dealer support is non-existent. Price. More expensive than the other 2 bra...

9. POLKA A HIT IN THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA   (02 Nov 2008)
On Sun, 2 Nov 2008 10:39:36 -0800 (PST), jrodg <jrodg46@optonline.net We ( Joe and the Plumbers Polka Band, aka Frankenmusikanten German Band) are happy to announce that our brand-new first-ever youtube video, entitled "I'm in Love with Sarah Palin POLKA (we proudly used and emphasized the "polka" word as part of the strategy) is a big hit on several of the ("mainstream") Internet's major sites: The clip, which we recorded last week "on the run" late one night after a busy Oktoberfest w...

10. what the extreme left like murtha and obarmy really think about the poor...   (23 Oct 2008)
On Thu, 23 Oct 2008 03:52:13 +0200, abelard <abelard3@abelard.org obarmy... "small-town Americans cling to guns and religion and xenophobia out of bitterness over lost jobs" murtha "There is no question that western Pennsylvania is a racist area" then he tried to squirm out of it...only to dig himself further in "This whole area, years ago, was really redneck" then there's that tribune of the common people, biden biden "I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is ar...
