java applet graphics
(24 Oct 2008)
Hi
I am from a swedish web company, recently we got a project which requires graphic design in java applet. It is something new for us, and we wonder if it is possible embeding any flash into applet, or if there is any conversion between them. If it needs to be done in a total different way, we would love to hear about your opinions.

Developing a task navigator applet (in Python)
(08 Nov 2008)
I'm interested in doing a little Python programming on my n800, and one of the things that I would like to do is create a moon phase applet for the task navigator (to replace the Contacts menu, which I don't use). I'm all set up with scratchbox, I've got the images and code for showing the moon's phase, and I found pytaskbar.py to start off with. Now I only have two questions before I start.
1. Is it actually possible to do what I'm thinking about? Looking at pytaskbar.py, it's clear that the me...

Java Applet .. Shrinking ?
(16 Nov 2008)
yes. well . hmm. hi.
recently installed ubuntu 8.10 and i love it, especially the cube feature - terminal is great as well.
i came to the conclusion that i dont need to be seeing all of the rs applet. Its generally big - even in standard detail and i dont need to be seeing all of that, i've played so much i could probably do some tasks with my eyes even closed ( :shame: )
so is there a way to "scale" a java applet / web browser without losing functions ?
i may be asking for a bit much..
mainly a...

Opinions on JavaFX
(07 Dec 2008)
posted December 02, 2008 11:54 AM Two days until official launch (assuming Sun doesn't delay, again). No Linux support, no OSX support, Windows only. Though Sun says Linux is soon to follow.
Personally, I think JavaFX will fail. I think not coming out of the gate with at least Linux support is a big red flag. I think shutting the community out of JavaFX's roadmap is a huge mistake. I think Flex and Silverlight already have such a strong footprint on the RIA market that trying...

Secure Java Applet for SNMP communication
(20 Dec 2008)
Hello,
I have the task of writing some web management for an Ethernet switch (running uClinux). The software is required to set various registers and read statistics. I have two main options, either I write a CGI program in C which runs on the server side and directly accesses the device drivers, or I write a Java applet which runs on the client side, and communicates via SNMP get/set commands.
Security is a major issue, and before I get too stuck in to either approach, I would like some advice...

Security of secure element - Nokia 6131
(24 Oct 2008)
Hi,
I have some security related questions regarding the Nokia 6131 and the SE:
1) So the Secure Element consists of a JavaCard and a Mifare 4K Area. If I install an applet, it is stored in the Javacard area. The data which is stored/held by the applet (e.g. some counter) is also stored in this same area. Right?
2) When does the Mifare 4K Area come into play? Just if I address it directly in some way?
3) As far as I know the Mifare 4k Area has some sort of access control itself. What is with the...

Wanting to make a light game.
(24 Oct 2008)
Well, I want to make a very light 3d java game. Now by light, I mean probably 500mhz processor light is what I would love to see happen, but I'm not sure if JME can run on that kind of machine even if I have a low poly count.
Questions:
1. What's usually the min. req. for JME? (Processor, ram, vid card)
2. Can I lower those req. by not drawing a lot of polys or doing any special effects like bloom?
3. How would I go about limiting the max polys drawn? If there isn't a way I was thinking about dr...

Do you hate/dislike Java?
(21 Nov 2008)
So, a simple question. Do you hate Java?
My tale is thus...
In primary school I started programming using old BASIC manuals from the 80's. Alas, I didn't have the opportunity to read Djikstra's "How do we tell truths that might hurt?".
From there I moved to C and C++ in secondary school.
Upon arrival at university I encountered Java. For the next four years courses were taught primarily in Java with a bit of C++ thrown in here and there.
Upon entering the real world I got a job as a java web dev...

Security Updates versus System Resources: WinXP on Tablet PC
(31 Dec 2008)
I have comcast cable internet to my cable modem to a 802.11g wireless router. The Router provides access for my wife's laptop, my desktop and my tablet PC, wirelessly. The laptop and tablet both use their onboard wireless cards. The Desktop uses an access point to connect to the router. The modem, router & access point are all Linksys.
My tablet was originally my main computer, but has been relegated to being a secondary system, used when its inconvenient/impossible to be at my desktop. To incre...
